Create TRUE Entrepreneur Success and Security

Did you know your first Energy Point can be found in your body at the base of your spine? This is the area where you house all of your 'security' energy. It is literally about being supported in life. So it makes sense that this will pop up when building a business, right?

The irony is that especially when it comes to building business so many entrepreneurs turn to the outside to determine whether they are strong and secure enough to be successful. You look around to see how your family is treating you (do they believe in my ability to succeed at this self-employed thing?) or what your material possessions look like (how much is in my bank account? What kind of office do I have?), and then you place a judgment on yourself that usually has to do with lack: My business is NOT successful; I ONLY have this much; I am NOT O.K.

Your body and environment will physically reveal your TRUE relationship with success and security. So, it's helpful to check in with yourself: do you experience any type of lower back or leg pain? And then look at your environment: Are you surrounded by chaos and clutter? Are you denying the use of your office area as a sacred business space? Are you creating balance in your business or just keeping "busy"?

If you are experiencing any pain in your back and leg area, this is your body (and the Universe, by the way) speaking to you, directing you, nudging you to give some attention to your relationship with success. For example, you may be being called to speak your mind to a family member (Hey, I believe I can build this business ... do you?), business partner, or client. It's really important for a conversation like this to happen so you are free to move forward and beyond the struggle-energy you are in now. Otherwise you will continue to experience the pain AND the situation that is causing your success-energy distress.

If you're environment is suffering and driving you crazy this is a nudge from the Universe, too. The spiritual side of you knows that safety and security are always available and the divine actions to take will always be shown to you. The ego side doesn't believe it for a second and goes into a whirlwind of busy-activity to try to prove that you're "making this happen". The trouble is in the cycle that then gets created between "I want", "I deserve" and "I feel scared" and "I'm never going to make it ." The thing about a cycle is that it will hold it's pattern unless you do something differently to break it.

Now, I can tell you over and over that these are only feelings and aren't "real", but what it comes down to is what you are willing to DO to shift these thoughts, to activate a different energy in order to be the master of your business - your life.

So how do you start?

When you do feel that nudge (or more) in your lower back and/or legs, or you take a look around and feel frustrated with your desk and/or office space take a deep breath in and ask yourself, "How can I do this differently?" and "What do I need to heal?" Let the answer come to you. You'll be surprised. If you doubt this will make any difference, try it for one week - EVERY time.

You see the keys to managing your energy are really so simple, but most entrepreneurs doubt it works. So you stay with what you've always done because, well, that's what you've always done or because someone said something to you at some point about what to believe in terms of your ability to create our own security. You took their word for it and never looked back. But unless things are hunky-dory in this area, your energy is speaking to you and will continue to do so whether you directly listen to it or not.

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but your habits work to create a false sense of security - and these buggers will really show themselves when a person starts building business (I always say, want a fast track to personal growth? Start a business!) Old habits see change as a threat, but your life-force energy wants you to soar and succeed and will nudge you until you do - which is why you feel the discomfort, frustration or pain. You can't create something new out of the old way.

How to Move Through Your Prospects Biggest Blocks

I've come to know that there are three big blocks that most often come up when anyone is looking at using a professional's service or getting ready to buy a product.

1. Money.

2. Time.

3. Timing.

This is also with the understanding that everything else between the two of you is what I call an energetic match: They have a need and you can serve that need. They feel connected to you. You have established trust. And you both feel excited and the energy of possibilities is clearly in the air between you.

But then one of the major blocks pops up.

What now? How can you help?

Let's start with first understanding the energy behind the blocks. By doing this you are able to come from a place of empathy, rather than sympathy. As a service provider it is a disaster move for you to join them in their block. That might sound something like, "I know exactly what you mean Ms. Prospect there are a lot of things that I really want, but can't have either. I hate it, too." This is a HUGE disservice to them and also to you (in more ways than we can fully get into in this one article).

So what you are really looking at here is fear (of the unknown, success, change, doing something positive for themselves... the fear takes different forms for different folks, but fear is fear.) Even if they really don't have the money, have absolutely no time and are in some way not ready or able, they are making excuses to mask the fear.

People make excuses because they can't see the difference between an outer reality and an inner belief regarding that reality. Most folks have a hard time separating the two and make them the same.

It might sound something like this:

I'm not ready now = I'll never really be ready.

I don't have the time now = I can't see how to make the time.

I don't have the money now = I don't believe I can generate the money.

Back in the summer of 1999 I was studying in Ashland, Oregon and one weekend we found this beautiful lake to swim in and saw that across the lake people were cliff-jumping. Now, this is something I use to do a lot when I was in high school. So I swam across, climbed to the top, got to the edge and froze. I could not jump off that cliff. Every time I looked over the edge I thought, "this is a fifteen foot cliff; what if I miss and slam into the rocks, I could break my leg, I could die, I could..."

And then, as I stood there, this boy, maybe he was eleven, came up next to me and asked, "are you going to jump?" And I started to come up with all these excuses, but sighed and just told him I was really scared. And what he said to me I've never forgotten:"

It's air and water. Just jump."

As I watched him sail over the edge and then bob up to the surface just seconds later, amazingly to me, I jumped. It was exhilarating! (And, obviously, I survived.)

And this, my friend, is exactly how a prospect feels when considering working with you. They see a financial investment, an obligation of time and a challenge they're preparing to face - a cliff to be jumped off.

So the automatic-human-fear-reaction is to make an excuse.

And, again, the worst move you can make is to join them. "Yes, this cliff is really high. You're right; it's impossible to jump. I understand how hard it is, so let me call you back in a few months and see if you're ready to jump then."

I can tell you, they will never be ready. (I know if that's what I'd heard, I would still be standing on that cliff or worse I would have turned around and gone back the way I came.)

Again, assuming your offer is right for them and they will truly benefit from working with you, then you are NOT serving their best interests if you "just let it slide."

And telling yourself that you are is your own excuse.

The energy of commitment is very strong. Let your prospect know that when you make a commitment the Universe begins to line up for you. Things may start slower than planned, but when you truly commit, it happens. Let them know that, together, you will take care of their concerns (money, time, doubts etc.).

My sense is when YOU commit then you'll hear, "Let's do it!"

Can I tell you it will ALWAYS go this way 100% of the time, no, but what I can tell you is that if YOU make the commitment to take a stand for the truth about the difference your service will make for your clients (and don't back down when they give you excuses), you will have a client who puts themselves completely in your process and together you will produce magnificent results. And the world will be better off because of it.

So Go Ahead. Take A Stand. You Can Do It.

Closely Guarded Energy-Secret for Greater Client Attraction...Tell Your Story

I've dealt with a few criticisms about including my personal story on my website, but, more importantly for every skeptic I've had at least 10 people tell me how much they admire what I share and how it resonates with them (and those folks usually end up coaching with me). So why share your personal story? Because it's going to be one of the fastest, most genuine ways to connect with those people that you are meant to serve in your business.

My ideal clients are high-integrity healers, coaches, practitioners and entrepreneurs, who are really good at what they do, and are ready for more financial success in their own businesses. You want more money, free time, and to market from a place that feels good to you in your heart and soul. Developing your own self-marketing system helps you successfully be in your business, have more freedom, and piece of mind (it also helps you go to places much bigger than you had originally imagined). It's about doing what you love and still being able to spend time with family and friends, simple as that.

Part of building a business that is a JOY to you involves sharing with people who you are. I remember when I had the opportunity to listen to Dr. Deepak Chopra share messages on the Soul of Healing. He spoke about the power of a story as the key to communication.

The first example Dr. Chopra gave was to highlight how our consumer society is literally built on stories. All of our large corporations have marketing teams that come up with a story to sell. The examples Dr. Chopra gave were: Nike - the power of the urban hero, VW Bugs - the carefree life of the hippie and beatnik, Apple Computers - the independent hipster. Now whether these archetypal images were what the companies had intended (my sense is Dr. Chopra didn't have that inside information) I'm not sure, but I will tell you that everyone in that room could relate to what he was saying and my guess is you do, too.

The second example Dr. Chopra gave was to emphasize the power of the story to heal. He told a touching story about his own father as a young doctor while serving in the army was faced with a young soldier who had lost his voice. With thorough research the Senior Dr. Chopra had discovered that this young soldier had received news of his mother's death and when he had tried to tell his superiors they cut him off before he could even finish the sentence, "My mother ..." and his body shut down and his voice disappeared with it. When this young soldier was able to have his story heard, his voice returned.

This truly brought tears to my eyes. We all want to be heard.

The question then becomes, HOW do you use your story in your business? My answer? Tell it. You're a solo-entrepreneur so you don't have to hire a marketing team to "create you". You are you. Let the people who are going to do business with you KNOW you. This way you get to be you, do what you love and work with people who you love (because they already connect with you because you shared your story!) How great is that? No more "trying to sell" instead you get to BE your business and it happens more easily.

The key also becomes about them being able to share their own story and Dr. Chopra clearly showed the power of that. They'll get the results they are looking for that much more quickly because all the c*r*a*p will be out of the way. They'll also see that if you can be it - so can they. You are in business to make amazing things happen for people. So, share.

I know I can already hear the "but you can't do that in MY business!" You have to be very clear about who you are serving. The sharing of your story is absolutely applicable even if you have a more Corporate target market. But you'd do it differently. You might not talk about your personal pain, but you'd perhaps make yourself more open, more available, less dull and looking-like-everyone-else-humdrum. (I had a client who fought me on this and continued to get dripple and draps in advertising; changed gears and presto! 57% increase in sales.)

So what's been learned? Your story is beautiful. It's how you came to do what you do. Be willing to share it and you're on your way to more energy, more riches and a whole lot more joy in your business.

3 Steps to Magnetizing Your Ideal Clients Instantly

To prepare yourself to magnetize your ideal clients you want to first pre-pave the way for connecting with your ideal clients by having two strong, EnergyRICH® legs to stand on.

These two essence pieces (the inner AND the outer) are the foundation of your business and your marketing. Yes, they will take some energy and effort to create. But once you've got them, you have the launching pad for magnetizing your ideal clients instantly.

Next the way you pull these clients in is a step-by-step energetically aligned and practical system using at least three avenues of marketing such as referral marketing,
networking, or speaking (these are only examples and can be any avenues that work for you).

When I started my first business this is exactly what I did. I had transitioned from being a high school drama teacher to being a self-employed Nutrition and Wellness Coach.

I had 6 months to “make it in business.” That was it.

After getting clear about the above two foundation pieces I contacted every networking organization in New York City (this is a lot). I plugged in at least 2 events per week. I managed my energy before I went to every single one. I met several people. I followed up with everyone I met and every referral I received. I set up a time to connect with them sooner rather than later – and I energetically set myself up for success before each and every meeting.

I filled my practice in 9 months (and had enough income at the magic 6 month mark to keep going.)

Step One - Manage your fears and doubts.

Step Two - Craft a message that has you extremely at ease with speaking about what you do. For instance, you want to communicate your value to the people that need your services in a way that is honest, authentic to you.

Step Three - Have at least three ways of connecting with potential clients, consistently.

Step Four – Have a clear call-to-action, not to immediately buy from you necessarily, but simply to connect with you to learn more. This is important. It might sound like this, "I’d be happy to set up a time to chat so I can hear more about what you’d like to see happening for yourself and we can see if my service is a match for you."

Step Five – Put in motion your EnergyRICH® Prospect to Profits Process™: learn about their needs and desires and what’s keeping this from happening, share how your service can get them where they want to go, and gain the commitment with ease.

Do You See Failure or Success?

I remember attending a meditation workshop with Mark Epstein, a well-known 'Buddhist psychologist.' He told a story about a meeting he had with Ram Dass, spiritual teacher and author, where Ram Dass had asked Mark Epstein about his work with his patients. As Mark talked about his work, Ram Dass interrupted him and asked, "Do you see them as already healed?"

I was so struck by this story. As a coach and healer of businesses, I saw the clarity in this question. So often as solo-service professionals it is easy to focus on our success by looking at ourselves (what we are doing, creating, visualizing, etc.), but the results are incredible when we turn the focus on those that we serve.

What do you see when you look at your clients or customers? Do you see failure or success?

When I worked as a high school teacher--in moments when my students were working on their own--I would say to myself, "The light in me sees the light in you." I really felt that. I could see my students succeeding long before they could see it or could even venture to believe it. However, I knew as their teacher it was my duty to hold that vision and energy for them and then guide them through the action steps of getting there. It always worked. I have countless high school teaching success stories.

I see that same (if not more--I've learned a lot in the past few years) success for the private and Boot Camp clients I work with now. I literally see them as a successful magazine owner, professional organizer, coach, meditation expert, Feng Shui practitioner...and the list goes on. It continues to work. I ask you to begin to apply this to your own business. Here are 3 steps to begin SEEING success in those that you serve.

1 - Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.

In Dr. Wayne Dyer's book, The Power of Intention, he sites that, "It turns out that at the tiniest subatomic level, the actual act of observing a particle changes the particle." This is a clear example of energy affecting energy. If I look at you and see your success, then you begin to create more of and be success! How great is that?So when speaking to a prospect, customer, or client, instead of questioning your abilities (wondering if you'll get the sale or joining them in their woes), the most powerful action you can take is to change the way you are looking at the situation. See them as happy, joyful, peaceful, well, successful...and more. You will be effecting a change that will result in more success and abundance for the both of you. (It feels so much better than worry and doubt!)

2 - Be constantly giving.

The energy of success is constantly giving and the supply is limitless. When you can come from this place in your own business, you begin to attract more into your life.

I know when I first heard this, it was hard for me to grasp. Mostly, because I used to come from a place of giving, but have one eye immediately on making sure that I was compensated and at the same time convinced that I wouldn't be. Guess what? I wasn't and I felt a whole lot of resentment at the same time.

When I shifted my attention to giving for the sake of the success of those that I was serving and simultaneously confidently took care of what I needed for myself and my business (instead of waiting for someone else to do just do it), there was more success ALL around.

3 - Detach from the outcome.

When you are able to SEE success, you don't need to be attached to the outcome because you KNOW that it's going to be successful. Whenever you are caught up in accumulating (I have to get this client; I have to sell to this customer), then you lose sight of what your main goal is--to see the success of those that you serve.

Find out exactly what's going on for the person that you're speaking to. Ask them and ask yourself, what do they need? The answer to this question is usually multi-layered. (For example, prospects that come to me may need more income from their businesses, but they also need to move through the blocks they've unconsciously set up for themselves that's keeping them from getting more money). So, you then SEE them as getting their needs fully met and begin the process of working with that person, so you can help make it happen.

Yes, You Can Let Your Prospects Know You (Actually, You Should!)

Every experience is an energy exchange. If you're focused on only what you can get from a prospect, your fear of not signing on the prospect or being withholding about the amount of time you're spending with this person, your energy will be resonating at a very low level. This makes all the difference in the world when you're interacting with someone (actually, even more than the words you say!).

So it might come as a surprise to you when I say, I highly recommend NOT offering a free sample session of any kind. This is what I compare to the perfume counter at Macy's. When you walk by the perfume counter, you know you'll be asked to try something for free. You feel no connection to the person offering it and the value of the sample registers as pretty low. Maybe you'll take it, maybe you'll leave it, but you, the customer, are in the driver seat.

You want to create a different energy when connecting with a prospect. You want it to be a co-creative experience. You and your prospect are coming to this meeting on equal ground. You don't need to prove anything. You just need to meet together to connect.

When you do this in a way that sets the stage for sparking the energy between you, then you're set up to move to the next level of relationship (prospect into client).

Now think about it...when you're about to buy something or are exploring working with someone, do you want him or her to rush you through it or actually have an experience that's about someone really wanting to get to know you and your needs?

Now also think about this...do YOU want to rush into a relationship with a new client or customer without getting a sense of if she's YOUR ideal client or not? (Think about any not-so-great client or customer relationships you've had in the past...want tons of those? I didn't think so.)

Setting the Stage

Setting the stage is getting on the same page energetically with the person you're connecting with. You start any serving opportunity by allowing in energy of trust. Below is a list of questions/steps for you to sample as part of forming an initial trusting connection with a prospect. As you read through the questions, consider what is important for you to include in your initial prospect meeting, ask your inner guidance: "What parts of this sample feel good to me? What would I like to incorporate into my own Process? What would I want someone to ask me?" Make note of these answers.

Questions to Ask Your Prospect

Start by gathering information about the prospect's current experience:

How did they hear about you?

What/Who brought them to you?

Ask, "What would you like to experience from our time together today?"

Be clear about what they can expect from you in this conversation.

These types of questions put you in a place to truly connect as PEOPLE and this makes all the difference in the world when preparing to move to the next level of a relationship. And yes, you CAN do this in any business. Imagine more people being more invested in your good interest...your mechanic, grocery store clerk, doctor, lawyer, accountant...feels good, right? Only good can come (for you and the people you serve) from taking the time to create this connection.

Next, be willing to share parts of you and your experience that relate to and connect with what you've heard. Tell a brief story, share a little tid-bit of a similar experience; be honest and be human. Be willing to share what it is about you and your business that connects to their situation. Let them know they aren't alone in this.

When I used to work as a high school teacher, over and over I saw the same pattern in teachers who struggled with discipline and getting high-achieving results from their students: They did not treat their students as people; they blamed the lack of success on the students; they didn't really trust (or believe) that their students could succeed.

Not quite an invitation to thrive, huh?

Now, please know I am not saying to give away oodles and oodles of your time or information for free. I am simply inviting you to embrace joyfully giving your time and energy in a thoughtful and systematic way when you connect with future clients, rather than starting a connection off by "making sure you aren't giving too much or being taken advantage of." Only abundance can come from really taking the time and energy to truly connect with those you're meant to serve (and to really make sure you're a match!) The type of energy you start a relationship with makes a HUGE difference in effecting the results you're looking for.
